SEEDINGS SET FOR NORTHEAST-10 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS
SOUTH EASTON, Mass. (February 21, 2007) - The pairings for the 2007 Northeast-10 Men's and Women's Basketball Championships were announced by the league office Wednesday morning.
The American International College women's team (21-6, 16-6) has
earned the No. 3 seed and a first round bye. They will host
the winner of Sunday's first round matchup between No. 6 Pace
(20-7, 15-7) and No. 11 Le Moyne (9-18, 5-17 NE-10) on Tuesday,
February 27 at 7:00 pm. It marks the fourth straight year the
AIC women have earned a first-round bye.
The Yellow Jacket men (15-12, 13-9) have earned
the No. 5 seed and will host their first NE-10 tournament game
since the 2001-02 season when they entertain 12th-seeded
Merrimack (8-19, 7-15) on Saturday,
February 24 at 2:00 pm. The winner of that game will advance
to face No. 4 seed Bryant (18-9, 14-8) Monday evening.
All games in the 2007 Northeast-10 Tournament can be seen on http://www.ne-10.tv/. All of AIC's games can be heard in the Springfield area on WAIC 91.9 FM as well as through http://www.aicyellowjackets.com/.
The women's basketball team, which is ranked No. 16 nationally, will be looking to advance to the NE-10 semifinals for the first time since 2003-04. The Yellow Jackets dropped both games to Pace this season by scores of 45-41 and 69-41, but swept Le Moyne by scores of 56-33 and 61-42.
The men's squad, which has already posted its highest win total since 2001-02, swept a pair of games against Merrimack this season, winning by scores of 58-48 and 67-60. Should it advance to face Bryant, AIC split a pair of games with the Bulldogs, losing 72-68 in a non-conference game at Bryant before posting a 52-45 win at home in February. It would also mark the third time in four seasons AIC will have faced Bryant in the league tourney.
