DOSADO, JONATHAN NAMED TO NE-10 BASKETBALL ALL-ACADEMIC TEAMS
SOUTH EASTON, Mass. (January 24, 2007) - Junior
Jeff Dosado (Montreal, Quebec) of the American
International College men's basketball team and sophomore
Jeannette Johnathan (Central Islip, N.Y.) of the
Yellow Jacket women's basketball team have been named to their
respective Northeast-10 Conference All-Academic Teams, with Dosado
garnering First Team honors and Johnathan copping Third Team
accolades. The announcement was made Tuesday afternoon.
To be eligible for selection to the academic teams, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and 3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution. The Northeast-10 All-Academic Teams are chosen by a vote of the Northeast-10 Sports Information Directors.
Dosado, a Finance major with a 3.24 GPA, has started 16 of 19 games for AIC this season and is averaging 8.6 ppg while leading the squad in three-pointers (24) and assists (63). He has reached double figures in scoring seven times this season, including a career-high 29 points in a December road win over Southern Connecticut State University in which he went 14-20 at the free throw line, one shy of the school record of 15 made free throws in a game. Dosado has helped the Yellow Jackets to a 10-9 (8-6 NE-10) record and AIC currently sits sixth in the NE-10 standings after being selected 12th in the preseason coaches' poll.
Johnathan, a Biology major with a 3.71 GPA, took
over the starting point guard role just five
games into the season when incumbent starting point guard Alissa
Rubino went down with an injury. Johnathan has filled in
admirably, averaging 6.2 points and 3.8 assists per game for the
Yellow Jackets while starting 14 of the last 15 games for
AIC. She currently ranks second in the Northeast-10 in
assist/turnover ratio (2.09) while ranking 11th in the
league in assists. She has helped AIC to a 15-4 mark,
including a 10-4 NE-10 ledger, and a No. 17 national ranking.
Both AIC hoop squads return to action Saturday
when they travel to Saint Michael's for a doubleheader kicking off
with the women's contest at 1:30 pm.
