CASTRO, MCNEIL NAMED FIRST TEAM ALL-NORTHEAST-10

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. (March 1, 2007) - Junior forward Alexis Castro (Chula Vista, Calif.) of the American International College women's basketball team and senior forward Magen McNeil (Philadelphia, Pa.) of the Yellow Jacket men's basketball team were named to their respective Northeast-10 Conference All-Conference First Teams, as announced by the conference office on Thursday evening.  It marks the fourth straight year AIC has had a First Team All-Conference player on the women's side, while McNeil's First Team selection was AIC's first on the men's side since Malik Moore was named the league's Player of the Year in 2002.

Castro, in her first season as a Yellow Jacket, is averaging 17.8 points and 10.7 rebounds per game to lead AIC in both categories.  She leads the NE-10 in rebounding and ranks second in scoring while also registering 16 double-doubles and leading AIC in scoring 23 times and rebounding 18 times.  A transfer from the University of Vermont who earned First Team All-America East honors last season, Castro has led the Yellow Jackets to a 21-7 record and a No. 20 national ranking.

Like Castro, McNeil led AIC in scoring and rebounding with averages of 15.5 points and 9.9 rebounds per game.  He currently ranks second in the NE-10 in rebounding and 10th in scoring, one of just two league players to rank in the top-10 in both categories.  The league leader in offensive rebounds with 136, 30 more than the next highest player, McNeil lead AIC in scoring 15 times and rebounding 20 times while registering 15 double-doubles.  He led AIC to a 16-13 mark, its highest victory total in five seasons.
