Nick Callini enters his fifth season as head coach of the American International College baseball team in 2008 after being named the 15th head coach in the program’s history on October 20, 2003. Callini was named head coach after the untimely passing of Chuck Lelas, the Yellow Jacket skipper from 1999-2003.

Under Callini's tutelage, the Yellow Jackets have increased their win total each of the last two years, and in 2006 posted their most victories since the 2002 season.  Jeff Rustico became AIC's first Northeast-10 All-Conference player in baseball since 2002, and Callini's squad posted impressive wins over NCAA Tournament teams Southern Connecticut and UMass Lowell.

“Nick did an outstanding job as an assistant coach last season along with the full responsibilities during the fall season and we are pleased to name him head coach for the upcoming season,” stated then-AIC Director of Athletics Robert E. Burke upon Callini’s hiring.

Callini, who served as an assistant coach in 2003, graduated in 2002 from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut where he earned a degree in Economics along with a minor in Models and Data. He was a member of two consecutive NCAA Regional Tournament appearances for the Bantams and captured a NESCAC Championship during his junior season. During his junior season he was named the team’s most improved player while winning the John E. Kelly Gold Glove, signifying the team defensive MVP.
