Joe O'Grady '47
O'Grady, a 1947 graduate of AIC, played football
and baseball for the Aces and served as a team captain in both
1941, when the team went 5-2, and in 1946, the first squad fielded
after World War II, for a team that went 4-2-1. He still holds the
school record for longest punt, booting a ball 78 yards against
Springfield College in 1941 and held the school record for
touchdowns in a game (4) until it was broken by Glenn Dumont. He
garnered Little All-America honors as well as three-time All-New
England accolades.
Following graduation O'Grady would stay involved at AIC with
numerous roles, serving as a head coach in baseball and golf while
also working as an assistant coach in football and basketball. He
also worked as the athletic department's sports information
director and also completed a stint as Director of Athletics.
O'Grady also served as the College's purchasing agent and managed
the campus bookstore before retiring in 1982, ending 43 years at
AIC.
