BILL TURNER
Bill Turner, a 1949 graduate of the College, played baseball, hockey and basketball at AIC and also served as a team manager for the Aces football program. On the frozen pond, Turner served as the player-coach of AIC’s first squad in 1948-49 and coached the team until 1957, then returned for a second stint behind the bench from 1964-70, during which the Yellow Jackets captured their first ECAC title in the 1968-69 season. That same season, Turner was named to AIC’s all-time hockey team.
Turner, a lifelong resident of Springfield
before his passing in March, 2006, was also employed for many years
at AIC as the Director of Career Planning. He also worked as
a vocational consultant with the Social Security Administration,
and served four years as a member of the Springfield School
Committee, acting as Chairman and being named the School Committee
“Man of the Year”. He was one of the first
recipients of American International’s Alumni Achievement
Award for service to the College following graduation.
