Fred Zanetti '50
Zanetti, a Springfield native, was a three-sport
athlete for the Aces, playing football, hockey and baseball. He
served as a team captain in both hockey and baseball and was a
member of AIC's first hockey team in 1948-49. Following graduation
he served as an assistant coach for both football and hockey,
assisting longtime American International hockey coach Bill Turner.
He would later go on to earn his master's degree from the College
in 1953.
He has an extensive track record of service both to his alma mater
and the city of Springfield. At AIC, he was the president of the
Alumni Varsity Club as well as its secretary, and also worked on
various fund drives at the College. In 2005, he was recognized with
the first Alumni Varisty Club Service Award for outstanding service
to the College. In Springfield, he worked as a school principal for
over 40 years and also served on numerous boards. In 1990 the
former Howard Street School was renamed Alfred G. Zanetti School.
