SPRINGFIELD, Mass. –
Joe Cardarelli will join the American International College men’s ice hockey program as a graduate assistant coach for the upcoming 2008-09 campaign, it was announce by head coach
Gary Wright. He arrives at AIC with nearly 10 years of coaching experience at the youth, high school, college and national levels.
"Joe comes to AIC with an impressive coaching resume, having previously coached at the junior, prep and college levels” said Wright. “We are excited to have him on our staff."
Cardarelli most recently coached at the National Sports Academy in Lake Placid, New York, with 14 players advancing to Junior A programs and seven players that went on to play at the college level since 2006. Prior to his arrival at the National Sports Academy, he served as an assistant coach at Division III Oswego State from 2003-06. Cardarelli spent three years on the Lakers’ staff and helped recruit the players that went on to win an NCAA national championship in 2007, a group that included three all-Americans, six all-conference players, two Rookie of the Year honorees and eight all-academic players.
Cardarelli has served as a coach and instructor with USA Hockey since 2000, coaching several Select teams and serving as a coaching education program instructor. His other coaching experience includes stints with the Washington Junior Capitals (Metropolitan Junior Hockey League), Westfield (Va.) High School and the Washington Little Capitals (Atlantic Youth Hockey League).
Cardarelli earned his bachelor’s in political science from Siena College in 1993 and later earned his master’s in labor relations from Rutgers University in 1994. He received his masters certification from USA Hockey in 2003.
