Watertown, Conn. – The American International College women’s soccer team, which is ranked 10th in the NSCAA East Region rankings, improved to 3-0-1 on the season after routing Post University, 7-0, Thursday afternoon in a non-conference contest. Junior defender Meghan O’Herron (Springfield, Mass.) was one of seven goal scorers for the Yellow Jackets.
O’Herron got AIC on the board 10:43 into the match with her first goal of the season off a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Sarah Tomlinson (Clitheroe, England). Tomlinson then made it 2-0 in the 20th minute after directing a feed from junior midfielder Morgan Mastronardi (Corunna, Ont.) into the far corner.
Mastronadi also assisted on sophomore forward Sarah Boornazian’s (Farmington, Conn.) team-leading eight goal of the season in the 33rd minute and senior forward Nicole Jackson (Lynn, Mass.) made it 4-0 with just 33 seconds remaining in the first half on her first goal of the season.
Mastronardi opened the second-half scoring with her first goal of the season in the 62nd minute and freshman Ashely Witson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) made it 6-0 with the first goal of her collegiate career in the 85th minute. Junior forward Maria Merritt (West Springfield, Mass.) capped the scoring 3:38 later for the 7-0 final.
Junior goalkeeper Kara Potts (Westfield, Mass.) made four saves to record the shutout and post her first win of the season. Senior Morgan Luschenat (Thomaston, Conn.) made 10 saves in taking the loss for the Eagles (0-3-0).
AIC out shot Post 29-8 in the game and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Yellow Jackets return to action Friday when they travel to Felician for a 1 p.m. non-conference contest.
