Amanda McLean (Branford, Conn.) buried a shot in overtime with an assist from graduate student
Jacki Lapointe (Danvers, Mass.) to propel the American International College field hockey team over Assumption, 3-2. With the win the Yellow Jackets improve to 4-10 this season, while the loss drops the Greyhounds to 3-11. McLean scored twice in the win.
After Assumption scored twice in the first half for a 2-0 lead, AIC got on the board in the second half when McLean found the back of the net in the 47th-minute. The Yellow Jackets tied the score just 12-minutes later, when sophomore
Linsey Fernandes (Ajax, Ont.) netted a goal off of a corner with an assist from junior
Rhonwen Peters (Aquashicola, Pa.).
McLean ended the game, eight-minutes into overtime, when she scored on a two-on-one breakaway with an assist from Lapointe.
Sophomore
Kim Steiner (Little Falls, N.Y.) stopped four shots to earn the victory, while junior Danielle Luongo (Northboro, Mass.) made five saves in the loss.
AIC outshot the Greyhounds 16-12 on the day.
