SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior Cassie Ashwell’s (Agawam, Mass.) goal at the 33-minute mark was the deciding factor as the American International College women’s soccer team tallied a 1-0 victory over Saint Michael’s Saturday afternoon. With the win the Yellow Jacket improve to 7-8-1 this season and to 4-8-1 in the Northeast-10, while the loss drops the Purple Knights to 4-9-2 overall and to 3-7-2 in the conference.

Today was AIC’s final regular season home game as they honored four seniors, Morgan Mastronardi (Corunna, Ont.), Meghan O’Herron (Springfield, Mass.), Kara Potts (Westfield, Mass.), and Lisa Saltmarsh (Westfield, Mass.).

Ashwell buried a shot from about 25-yards out over the outstretched arms of Saint Michael’s keeper, sophomore Ashleigh Adams (Milton, Vt.), with assists from freshman Bryony Parker (Leeds, England) and junior Sarah Boornazian (Farmington, Conn.).

Potts made nine saves earning the victory and shutout, while Adams stopped eight shots in the loss.

The Yellow Jackets outshot the Purple Knights 17-11 on the day and 10-5 in the first half.

Next up, AIC heads to Southern Connecticut on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
