New Haven, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University scored twice in the second half to earn a 2-2 tie with the American International College women’s soccer team Tuesday night in a Northeast-10 contest. Senior forward Morgan Mastronardi (Corunna, Ont.) scored one goal and assisted on another for the Yellow Jackets.

Mastronardi gave AIC (7-8-2, 4-8-2 NE-10) a 1-0 lead 10:15 into the contest with her sixth goal of the season and then setup junior back Cassie Ashwell (Agawam, Mass.) just 1:42 later to put the Yellow Jackets ahead 2-0. The goal was Ashwell’s fourth of the year.

The Owls (7-8-1, 4-8-1 NE-10) got on the board in the 57th-minute with a goal from senior forward/midfielder Danielle MacMurray (Griswold, Conn.) and tied the game in the 68th-minute when freshman forward Chelsea Downer (Colchester, Conn.) found the back of the net. Both were unassisted.

Senior keeper Kara Potts (Westfield, Mass.) had eight stops in goal for AIC, two of which came in overtime. Junior keeper Katie Didio (Vernon, Conn.) made five of her nine saves in overtime for SCSU.

The Yellow Jackets will close out the Northeast-10 portion of their 2009 regular season schedule Saturday when they travel to Saint Anselm for a 12:30 p.m. matchup.
