Brookhaven, N.Y. – The American International College women’s soccer team closed the 2009 campaign with a 2-1 overtime loss at Dowling Wednesday night in a non-conference contest. The Golden Lions improved to 12-4-1 for the season, while the Yellow Jackets season ended at 7-10-2 overall.

Junior forward Sarah Boornazian (Farmington, Conn.) scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season to give AIC a 1-0 lead in the 54th-minute, but freshman midfielder Kristy Vitale (Shirley, N.Y.) answered six minutes later off a cross from freshman forward Alexis Parrotta (Centereach, N.Y.). Parrotta then setup freshman midfielder Kayla Mueger (Farmingdale, N.Y.) for the game-winning goal 2:43 into the extra period.

Sophomore keeper Sara Sullivan (Levittown, N.Y.) recorded two saves after entering the game at start of the second half to earn the decision in goal, while senior keeper Kara Potts (Westfield, Mass.) had five saves in taking the loss.

Dowling outshot the Yellow Jackets 19-13, including a 13-4 margin in the first half, and had an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
