Cassie Ashwell (Agawam, Mass.) to give the American International College women's soccer team a 2-1 win over Merrimack College Saturday morning at Ronald J. Abdow Field.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 6-5-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Warriors fell to 8-3-1 overall and 5-3-0 conference play.
Merrimack opened the scoring when junior midfielder Ashley Alnwick (Groton, Mass.) found the back of the net 12:22 into the game off a cross from junior midfielder Jessie DeGrann (Braintree, Mass.).
That score stood until the 71st-minute when Ashwell scored on a tough angle to tie the game at 1-1. She took the shot from just outside the left of the box and the ball deflected off senior keeper Brittany Gustafson (East Hampton, Conn.) and found its way just inside the far right corner of the goal. .

Kara Potts (Westfield, Mass.) made eight saves in the game, two of which came in the first overtime period, to register the win in goal for the Yellow Jackets. Gusafson had eight saves in taking the loss for the Warriors.
Merrimack outshot AIC 25-18 in the game and had an 11-6 advantage in corner kicks.
The Yellow Jackets return to action Tuesday when they travel to No. 14 Franklin Pierce for a 6 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
