Wrestling Opens Season with Second-Place Finish at Electric City Duals

Scranton, Pa. – The American International College wrestling team placed second of six teams at the 2009 Electric City Duals, hosted by the University of Scranton. The Yellow Jackets dropped a 21-19 decision to the Apprentice School in the championship match.

AIC advanced to the championship after going 2-0 in pool play, defeating Scranton’s “B” team 42-3 and Morrisville 34-12. The Yellow Jackets were also a 31-9 winner over Scranton’s “A” team.

Junior 125 Este Lara (Avon, Conn.) pinned Scranton’s Josh Javitz in 33 seconds, recorded a 10-0 major decision over Morrisville’s Justin Delmothe and beat Scranton’s Mike Murcia 5-2 bore registering a 9-1 major decision over Apprentice’s Tyrae Ford. Senior 174 Martin Thompson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) went 2-0 on day, recording an 8-6 win over Scranton’s Matthew Terry and a 10-6 decision over Apprentice’s Malaki Outlaw.

Junior 165 Ronnie Tetreault (Ludlow, Mass.) also went 4-0 in his AIC debut. He won a 15-0 technical fall over Scranton’s Mike Bonomo and was a 2-0 winner over Scranton’s Paul Rajin, pinned Morrisville’s Parker in 4:21 and was a 7-4 winner of Apprentice’s Pat McIntosh.

Freshman heavyweight Casey Hines (Starke, Fla.) pinned Scranton’s Greh Hoeper in 1:17 and then pinned Apprentice’s Jeremy Dilley in 6:05. Freshman heavyweight Travis Koch (Hampton, Conn.) defeated Morrisville’s Sam O’Donnell and won by forfeit against Scranton’s “B” team.

AIC will next compete at the Clarion Open November 7.
