SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College men’s soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Franklin Pierce University Tuesday night at Ronald J. Abdow Field. The Ravens improved to 8-3-2 overall and 6-2-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 5-8-0 overall and 2-5-0 in conference play.

Franklin Pierce jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when sophomore midfielder Paul Latif (Newcastle, England) scored off a feed from sophomore midfielder Victor Goncalves (Rio de Janero, Brazil) just 4:22 into the game and took that advantage into the half. Goncalves later scored what proved to be the game-winning goal 5:44 into the second half with an assist from Latif.

AIC got on the board after being awarded a penalty kick with 4:49 left in the match. Sophomore forward Thomas Denomme (North Smithfield, R.I.) tucked the ball just inside the right post for his team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Sophomore keeper Vinny Papageorgiou (Wilmington, Mass.) made six saves to earn the decision in goal, while senior keeper Ryan Brooks-Newton (Selkirk, N.Y.) had two saves in taking the loss.

The Yellow Jackets outshot the Ravens 15-8 in the game, including a 9-3 advantage in the second half. Corner kicks were even at four apiece.

AIC will next host Assumption College Saturday 1 p.m. in a Northeast-10 contest.
