Jashawn Williams Named 2009 NE-10 Defensive Lineman of the Year

South Easton, Mass. – Senior defensive lineman Jashawn Williams (Roosevelt, N.Y.) of the American International College football team was named the 2009 Northeast-10 Defensive Lineman of the Year and was one of eight Yellow Jackets named to the 2009 Northeast-10 all-Conference Team, it was announced by the conference office.

Senior cornerback Allen Bush (Newark, N.J.) and senior defensive lineman Nathaniel Thompson (Elizabeth, N.J.) joined Williams as first-team selections, while senior wide receiver Kertis Hussey (Paterson, N.J.), junior offensive lineman Collin James (Springfield, Mass.), junior linebacker Nick Abraham (Tewksbury, Mass.) and sophomore safety Max Brown (Paterson, N.J.). Freshman wide receiver Matt Brown (North Kingston, R.I.) was named to the all-Rookie Team.

Williams was named to D2Football.com's Preseason NE-10 all-conference team after earning second-team all-conference honors a year ago. He recorded 42 tackles with 12.0 sacks and 14.0 tackles for loss. Williams led the NE-10 and ranked second in Division II with 1.27 sacks per game.

Abraham, who was a first-team all-conference pick last season, started all 10 games in 2009 and recorded 38 tackles with 4.0 tackles for loss. Bush, who was also a first-team all-conference selection in 2008, recorded 40 tackles with 27 solo efforts. He was named to D2Football.com's Preseason NE-10 all-conference team and was named a Preseason all-American by Consensus Draft Services.

Matt Brown appeared in nine of AIC’s 10 games played in his rookie campaign, pulling in 27 passes for 418 yards. Max Brown was fourth on the team with 62 tackles and led the team with 37 solo tackles. He recorded a team-best five interceptions and recovered two fumbles, while ranking third in the NE-10 and 21st in Division II with 0.50 interceptions per game.

Hussey, who was also a second-team all-conference selection last year, led the team with 58 catches for 732 yards, 10 receiving touchdowns, 1,252 all-purpose yards and 66 points (11 TDs). He ranked fourth in the NE-10 in scoring with 6.60 points per game and closed out his AIC career ranked second in career receptions with 162, fourth in career receiving yards with 2,175 and seventh in scoring with 178 career points. Hussey was named to D2Football.com's Preseason Northeast-10 all-conference team and named to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll October 6.

James earned second-team honors after playing football for the first time just two years ago when he arrived at AIC. He started each of his nine games played at right guard this season.

Thompson, who was named to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll September 14, finished third on the team with 63 tackles and led the team with 18.0 tackles for loss while recording 6.5 sacks. He led the NE-10 and ranked sixth in Division II with 1.94 tackles for loss per game.

AIC went 5-5 in 2009 and finished seventh in the Northeast-10 with a 3-5 conference record.
