SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College wrestling team dropped a pair of dual matches in a tri-meet against Johnson & Wales University, 30-9, and Kutztown University, 29-10, Saturday afternoon at Butova Gymnasium. The Yellow Jackets dual record now stands at 4-4 this season.
Against Kutztown, sophomore
Robert Merchant (Cobleskill, N.Y.) won an 11-1 major decision over sophomore Anthony Frost (West Reading, Pa.) at 149 pounds and junior
Jason Pagan (New London, Conn.) was a 7-3 winner over freshman Alex Depew (Wilson, Pa.) at 174 pounds. Junior
Yaakov Bloch (Ashkelon, Israel) was a 5-1 winner over Eric Sergent at 184 pounds.
Against Johnson & Wales, Bloch was a 7-4 winner over Bill Mulligan (Towaco, N.J.) at 197 pounds and freshman
West Johnson (Meriden, Conn.) was a 7-2 winner over sophomore Justin Sitzer (Manalapan, Fla.) at 141 pounds. Senior
Sam Gauvine (Enfield, Conn.) was a 14-7 winner over sophomore Anthony Pierrio (Norwood, N.J.) at 157 pounds.
AIC will next compete at Lock Haven University’s Mattown Invitational November 28.
