Glarius Rop (Eldoret, Kenya) of the American International College men’ cross country team has been named the Northeast-10 Athlete and Freshman of the Year, it was announced by the conference office after a vote by the NE-10 coaches.
Rop placed third overall at the 2009 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championship, hosted by the University of Southern Indiana, with a time of 30:32.4 after winning the NCAA East Region Championship with a time of 30:15.9 while also earning NCAA Regional Runner of the Year honors. He is the first AIC cross country runner to earn all-America and all-Region honors and was the first ever Yellow Jacket to compete at the national championship meet.
Rop placed first overall with a conference-record time of 24:22.2 at the 2009 Northeast-10 Championship, earning him Athlete of the Meet and all-conference honors
The Yellow Jackets placed fifth at the NCAA regional championship and the Northeast-10 championship meets, marking the highest team finish in either meet in the program’s brief four-year history.
