SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College women’s lacrosse team tallied its first win of the season beating Norwich 10-6 on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Yellow Jackets improve to 1-3 this season, while the Cadets fall to 0-1 to start the year. Sophomore
Gina Gallo (Westfield, Mass.) played stellar in goal for AIC making 14 saves in the first victory of her collegiate career.
Norwich got on the board first, but the Yellow Jackets netted four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead midway through the first half. AIC tallied three more goals before the first half ended stretching their lead to 7-3. In the second half, each team scored three times as the Yellow Jackets claimed a 10-6 victory.
Senior
Katie Warner (Westfield, Mass.) found the back of the net twice and dished out two assists, while junior
Morgan Mastronardi (Corunna, Ont.) netted three goals. Sophomores
Kara Kirkland (Plymouth, Mass.) and
Colleen Dorsey (Wilbraham, Mass.) each tallied two goals on the day for AIC.
Junior Ally Daniels (Concord, N.H.) led the Cadets with four goals on the afternoon. Freshman Meghan Kennedy (Lowell, Mass.) stopped four shots for Norwich, before being replaced at half time by sophomore Kellie Pickel (Montpelier, Vt.) who made seven saves of her own.
The Yellow Jackets outshot the Cadets 29-25 on the game and 16-7 in the first half.
Next up, AIC travels to New Haven for their first Northeast-10 game of the season on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
