Kara Kirkland (Plymouth, Mass.) netted seven goals to propel the American International College women’s lacrosse team to a 19-13 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas College Saturday afternoon. With the win the Yellow Jackets improve to 2-5 this season, while the Spartans fall to 0-3 on the year.
Senior
Katie Warner (Westfield, Mass.) tallied five goals and three assist for eight points in the game, while junior
Morgan Mastronardi (Corunna, Ont.) scored three goals and dished out an assist for AIC. Freshman
Amanda McLean (Branford, Conn.) found the back of the net twice and handed out an assist, while sophomores
Alex Hudyka (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and
Colleen Dorsey (Wilbraham, Mass.) each tallied a goal and an assist.
Senior Jennifer Bruen (Tappan, N.Y.) netted five goals and dished out one assist to lead St. Thomas Aquinas with six points in the game. Junior Lindsey Lawless (North Caldwell, N.J.) recorded four goals and an assist, while classmate Maryanne Kugler (Garnerville, N.Y.) and freshman Anne Buttafuoco (Williston Park, N.Y.) each registered two goals.
Sophomore netminder
Gina Gallo (Westfield, Mass.) stopped 16 shots in recording her second win of the season for the Yellow Jackets, while her counterpart, junior Jennifer Kugler (Garnerville, N.Y.) made 14 saves in the loss for the Spartans.
AIC and St. Thomas Aquinas were even in shots at 40-40, but the Yellow Jackets outshot the Spartans in the second half 24-19.
