Yellow Jackets Fall Short in Final Game at John H. Miller Field

Springfield, Mass. – The American International College men’s lacrosse team erupted for eight goals in the fourth period, but it wasn’t enough as they fell to Pace 17-12 Wednesday afternoon. The game was the final game scheduled to be played at John Homer Miller Field at AIC. The loss dropped the Yellow Jackets to 0-11 overall and 0-8 in the Northeast-10, while the Setters improved to 4-9 and 3-5.

AIC fell behind early as they were outscored by Pace 5-0 in the opening period. Junior attack James Hammel (North Caldwell, N.J.) paced the Setter offense with four goals and five assists. Senior attack T.J. Urban (Yonkers, N.Y.) also dished out five assists.

Sophomore attack Aaron McNab (West Springfield, Mass.) led the Yellow Jackets in scoring with five goals and two assists. Graduate defender Leon Mularski (Wallingford, Conn.) contributed two goals and an assist in the final game of his college career. Sophomores Travis Ortensi (South Hadley, Mass.) and Dan MacIssac (Port Perry, Ont.) each added a pair of goals for AIC.

Senior goalkeeper Timothy Matheis (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) stopped three shots in the win for Pace, while freshman Kevin Grady (Medford, N.Y.) made eight saves in relief. In between the pipes for the Yellow Jackets, sophomore goalie Mark Taylor (North Andover, Mass.) made 17 saves in the first half. Classmate Max Castleman (Wilbraham, Mass.) played the second half in goal and stopped four shots.

The Yellow Jackets return to action for the regular season finale at Saint Anselm on Friday at 4 p.m.
