Yellow Jackets Drop Road Contest to Assumption

Worcester, Mass. – The American International College baseball team dropped a Northeast-10 contest to Assumption, 7-2, Tuesday afternoon. The loss dropped the Yellow Jackets to 8-29 overall and 6-19 in the NE-10, while the Greyhounds improved to 24-16-1 overall and 16-8-1 in conference play.

AIC jumped on the board with the first two runs of the game coming in the top of the second. Freshman third baseman Tyler McElman (Marlborough, Mass.) jacked his fourth home run of the season to plate sophomore shortstop Dan Mooney (Bennington, Vt.).

Assumption answered with three runs in the home half of the third. Sophomore shortstop Shawn Frigon (Worcester, Mass.) singled to center to score freshman designated hitter Frank Flynn (Worcester, Mass.). Senior second baseman Mike Baillargeon (Worcester, Mass.) followed up with a two-run homer of his own to give the Greyhounds the lead.

Sophomore Joe Martini (Arlington, Mass.) pitched eight innings and struck out six, while allowing two earned runs in the win for Assumption. Sophomore Sean Stevenson (Holyoke, Mass.) took the loss for AIC after giving up six runs, three earned, and struck out five.

The Yellow Jackets return to action Thursday as they host Assumption at 3:30 p.m.
