Baseball Falls to Assumption, 9-0

Springfield, Mass. – The American International College baseball team dropped a Northeast-10 contest to Assumption, 9-0, Thursday afternoon at AIC Park. With the loss the Yellow Jackets stand at 8-30 overall and 6-20 in the NE-10, while the Greyhounds improved to 27-16-1 overall and 17-8-1 in the conference.

Sophomore starter Zachary Jacques (Jefferson, Mass.) earned his fifth win of the season after pitching six scoreless innings in which he gave up just three hits. Freshman Geoff McCowat (Sterling, Va.) took the loss for AIC as he gave up four runs and struck out four through five innings of work.

Junior center fielder Derek Migrants (Ayer, Mass.) got Assumption on the board in the first innings with a solo home run to right center. Senior second baseman Mike Baillargeon (Worcester, Mass.) went 3-6 at the dish with four RBI and a run scored. Sophomore catcher Mike Foley (Worcester, Mass.) was 2-4 with three runs driven in from the clean-up spot.

The Yellow Jackets were held to just three hits, but senior right fielder Jon Thorpe (East Longmeadow, Mass.) had a productive day at the plate going 2-3 with a double.

AIC returns to action tomorrow as it visits NE-10 opponent Merrimack at 3:30 p.m.
