Lowell, Mass. - The American International College men's basketball team, which is still missing two starters, pulled out a 71-51 Northeast-10 victory at UMass Lowell Saturday afternoon at Costello Gymnasium. Junior forward Anthony Thomas (Baltimore, Md.) scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed 12 boards to lead the Yellow Jackets.

The Yellow Jackets, who snapped a four-game losing streak with the victory, improved to 7-9 overall and 5-6 in the Northeast-10. The River Hawks fell to 11-5 overall and 8-3 in conference play.

Junior guard Byron Richard (Adelphia, Md.) poured in 19 points, hitting 6-of-10 threes, and pulled down six boards. Sophomore guard Adrian Hynes-Guery (Montreal, Que.) netted 13 points and grabbed six boards in his return to the lineup after missing the last three games due to injury, and freshman guard Ricky Hudson (Sewell, N.J.) also scored 13 points with eight boards.

Sophomore guard Kyle Caiola (Parma, Ohio) netted 18 points to lead UMass Lowell. Freshman guard Scott Tavares-Taylor (Boston, Mass.) added 14 points with six rebounds and two assists.

The Yellow Jackets opened the game with a 12-2 run over the first 6:02 and never looked back. AIC closed the first half with a 15-4 run to open a commanding 44-21 lead at the half and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.

The River Hawks used an 11-2 run to pull back within 11, 56-45, with 5:25 to go in the second half, but AIC answered 12-2 burst of its own over the next four minutes to put the game out of reach.

The Yellow Jackets shot 43.1 percent (22-51) from the field, 38.9 percent (7-18) from beyond the arc and 80 percent (20-25) from the charity stripe, while holding UMass Lowell to 31.8 percent (21-66) shooting from the field, 15.4 percent (4-26) from three. The River Hawks were just 5-for-10 at the line._
