Career-High 24 for Boesenberg Leads AIC Past Saint Anselm, 67-48

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Senior guard Kristin Boesenberg (Pocono Pines, Pa.) scored a career-high 24 points, hitting 8-of-12 shots from the field and 7-of-10 from beyond the arc, to lead the American International College women's basketball team to a 67-48 Northeast-10 victory over Saint Anselm College Saturday afternoon at Butova Gymnasium.

The Yellow Jackets shot 52.4 percent (22-42) from the field and an incredible 63.6 percent (14-22) from beyond the arc as they improved to 7-13 overall and 5-10 in the NE-10. AIC hit 12-of-23 attempts from the floor in the second half and were 8-for-11 from downtown. The Yellow Jackets also snapped a five-game losing streak with the win.

The Hawks struggled to beat AIC’s zone defense and shot just 32.8 percent (16-46) from the floor and 43.8 percent (7-16) from three as they fell to 8-12 overall and 5-10 in conference play.

Junior guard Adriana Johnson (Tobyhanna, Pa.) netted 12 points with four assists, three rebounds, four assists and two steals. She was 4-for-5 from the field with one three and was 3-for-4 from the line. Junior guard/forward Josephine McLane (Freemont, Calif.) netted 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field and a 2-for-3 performance from three.

Sophomore guard Michelle Lafond (Holyoke, Mass.) netted nine points after going 3-for-4 from downtown. Sophomore guard Marie Li Sicard (Montreal, Que.) also scored nine points with four rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Sophomore guard Epiphany Smith (Springdale, Ark.) scored 15 points on a 5-for-9 performance from beyond the arc to lead Saint Anselm. She also grabbed four rebounds and had two assists. Sophomore forward Megan Howard (St. Paul, Minn.) added 10 points with two rebounds, two assists and two steals off the bench. She hit five of her eight attempts from the field.

The Hawks opened the game with a 9-2 run over the first 5:13 and were up eight, 14-6, before the Yellow Jackets rattled off 20 straight points to take control of the game and open a 26-14 lead with 4:27 left in the first half. AIC led 32-23 at the half and used a 16-6 run that was capped by a Lafond three with 2:39 to go to open a 26-point advantage, 67-41.

The Yellow Jackets will next travel to the University of New Haven Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
