Complete AHA Release
Haverhill, Mass. – Freshman forward
Adam Pleskach (Beausejour, Man.) of the American International College was named the Atlantic Hockey Association Rookie of the week for his performance in the Yellow Jackets sweep of Bentley over the weekend. AIC claimed a 6-5 victory on Friday and 3-2 win in overtime on Saturday to improve their record to 5-19-2 overall and to 5-15-2 in the conference. The sweep was the teams first since their home-and-home with the Falcons in February 2008. Sophomore forward
Michael Penny (Calgary, Alb.) and freshman netminder
Ben Meisner (Halifax, N.S.) also received AHA honors by being named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
Pleskach recorded three points in the sweep of Bentley with a goal and two assists. He buried a goal 13-seconds into the second period to give AIC a 5-1 lead in their victory on Friday. In Saturday’s overtime win, Pleskach dished out an assist in the second period on the game-tying goal, then handed out an assist on the game-winner in overtime.
Penny found the back of the net three times Friday night, leading the Yellow Jackets to a 6-5 victory over Falcons. He netted two of his goals early in the first period, one of which on the power-play, to put AIC out to an early 2-0 lead. Penny buried his third of the night in the second period to complete the natural hat-trick. His hat-trick was the first for AIC since Jereme Tendler did it against Bentley on January 12, 2007.
Meisner play very well in Saturday’s 3-2 (OT) win turning aside 35 shots, including 24 in the final two periods of regulation and three in overtime, to claim his fourth victory of the season.
Next up, the Yellow Jackets take on Sacred Heart in a home-and-home beginning this Friday at 7:05 p.m. at the Olympia Ice Center.
