HAWKS EDGE YELLOW JACKETS 2-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 13, 2006) - Andrew Long (Peabody, Mass.) threw a complete-game five-hitter to lead Saint Anselm College to a 2-1 win over American International College in Northeast-10 baseball Thursday afternoon at AIC Park.  The Hawks improve to 12-18 overall and 5-7 in NE-10 play, while the Yellow Jackets are 9-14 and 5-10 in the league.

Long, who struck out three while walking two, allowed just three Yellow Jacket scoring position all afternoon in his complete-game effort.  Brett Cooley (Somers, Conn.) took the loss on the hill for American International, giving up seven hits while fanning seven in his complete game effort.

The Hawks, who trailed 1-0 in the second when a single by Dominic Meattey (Fitzwilliam, N.H.) for AIC plated Kevin Farrell (Wilbraham, Mass.), who led off the inning with a double, scored both of their runs in the top of the fifth.  A single by Adam Hussey (Danvers, Mass.) scored Tim Keefe (Cambridge, Mass.), who led off the frame with a single.  Ryan Call (Hopkinton, Mass.) would register the game-winning RBI with two outs when his single played Pat Toomey (Stoughton, Mass.).

AIC would get the tying run into scoring position with two outs in the bottom of the ninth when Marc Verderame (Southington, Conn.) doubled, but Meattey would fan to end the game.

Hussey and Keefe would each collect a pair of hits for the Hawks.  Jeff Rustico (Plantsville, Conn.) was 2-3 at the plate for American International with a double.

AIC gets back to action Saturday when it travels to Saint Rose for a doubleheader starting at noon.
