BASEBALL TRIPS UP SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT 4-1

Soltis (Plantsville, Conn.) allowed just one run in
six-plus innings of work and Dominic Meattey
(Fitzwilliam, N.H.) delivered a two-run, two-out double in the
sixth inning to lead American International College to a 4-1
victory over Southern Connecticut State University in Northeast-10
baseball Thursday at the Ballpark at Southern. The Yellow
Jackets are now 11-21 overall and 7-17 in league play while the
Owls, who were ranked second in New England in Division II entering
the game, are now 23-12 and 12-6 in the league.
Soltis upped his record to 4-2 in the season by scattering seven hits and allowing just one run in six-plus innings on the hill. He retired seven straight at one point. Jon Ferry (Thorndike, Mass.) earned his fourth save of the year for American International by hurling the final three innings and allowing just two hits. Jeff Farrell took the loss for the Owls, allowing six hits and four earned runs in a complete game effort.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Neal Quesnel (South Hadley, Mass.) led off with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kevin Farrell (Wilbraham, Mass.), AIC plated three runs in the sixth to take a 4-0 lead. Drew Kohl (Easthampton, Mass.) would lead off the frame with a single and scored on a base hit by Jeff Rustico (Plantsville, Conn.). After Quesnel picked up his second hit of the game, Meattey would drive both home with a double to center field.
Southern Connecticut scored their only run in the seventh when Sean Morgan drove in pinch runner Matt Hennessey with a sac fly.
Quesnel and Kohl each had a pair of hits for AIC, while Michael Diaz was 4-5 hitting out of the leadoff spot for SCSU. Morgan also had a pair of hits for the Owls, who outhit the Yellow Jackets 9-6 but stranded 10 runners on base for the game.
AIC hosts Bryant in a doubleheader Saturday
beginning at noon.
