SETTERS SWEEP TWINBILL

GAME 1 BOX SCORE     GAME 2 BOX SCORE

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 6, 2006) - Visiting Pace University swept a Northeast-10 baseball doubleheader from host American International College Saturday afternoon at AIC Park.  The Setters, who improved to 32-17 overall and 17-11 in NE-10 play, took a 4-1 win in the opener then followed up with a 9-3 triumph in the second game.  The Yellow Jackets are now 12-25 and 8-21 in the league.

In the opener, the Setters would plate a pair of runs apiece in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-0 lead.  Jack Cawley (Bronx, N.Y.) was 3-5 at the plate in the opener for the Setters, while JC Pullum (White Plains, N.Y.), Matt Arburr (Bristol, Conn.) and Brian Hollrah (Glenwood, Md.) had two hits apiece for the Setters.  AIC plated its only run in the eighth when Tyler Cooke (Brattleboro, Vt.) scored on a single by Jeff Rustico (Plantsville, Conn.).

Bryan Hallberg (River Edge, N.J.) picked up the win for Pace, carrying a no-hitter through seven innings before Cooke led off the eighth with a single.  He allowed just two hits in 8.1 innings of work.  Eric Brown (Norwalk, Conn.) recorded the final two outs to earn the save.  Brett Cooley (Somers, Conn.) went eight innings for the Yellow Jackets and surrendered nine hits while fanning four.

In the nightcap Pace broke open a 3-1 game with five runs in the fifth off of six hits to take an 8-0 lead.  The Setters took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run home run by Cawley, then Matt Bisbano (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) made it 3-0 in the fourth with his solo home run to right.  AIC would score in the bottom of the fourth when a single by Kevin Farrell (Wilbraham, Mass.) plated Neal Quesnel (South Hadley, Mass.).  The Yellow Jackets would get their other two runs in the bottom of the eighth via a two-run single by Andrew Martirano (Yonkers, N.Y.).

Angelo Fusaro (Stamford, Conn.) pitched five innings and allowed four hits to pick up the win for Pace.  AIC starter Bryan Soltis (Plantsville, Conn.) left after 4.1 innings of work, allowing seven hits and seven runs.  The Setters banged out 11 hits in the nightcap with Arburr, Bisbano and Joe Barracato (Westbury, N.Y.) notching two hits apiece, with Bisbano knocking in three runs.  Martirano had three of American International's six hits in the second game.

AIC and Pace meet Sunday in Pleasantville, N.Y. in the season finale for the Yellow Jackets.
