BASEBALL SUFFERS TWO ONE-RUN LOSSES AT SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (April 13, 2007) - The American
International College baseball team suffered a pair of one run
losses at the hands of Southern Connecticut State University in a
Northeast-10 baseball doubleheader on Friday afternoon. The
Yellow Jackets fell 6-5 in 10 innings in the opener then suffered a
4-3 defeat in the nightcap. AIC is now 6-15 overall and 2-9
in NE-10 play, while the Owls are 10-22 and 6-8 in the league.
In the first game, Kyle Paton (Westfield, Mass.), Jeff Rustico (Plantsville, Conn.) and Billy Thompson (Brookfield, Conn.) each finished with a pair of hits, while Bryan Turney (Auburn, Mass.) drove in three runs. The Yellow Jackets took a 5-4 lead in the top of the 10th inning, but the host Owls scored twice in the bottom of the frame to pick up the win.
Uchon Yi (Windsor Locks, Conn.) hurled the first seven innings for AIC, allowing seven hits and four runs, all earned. Mike Lavato (Springfield, Mass.) worked the 10th for the Yellow Jackets and took the loss.
In the nightcap, Rustico went 3-4 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI, while Turney and Matt Rhodes (Charlestown, R.I.) also drove in one run apiece. Turney also extended his hitting streak to 10 games. Brett Cooley (Somers, Conn.) pitched all eight innings and took the loss for AIC, allowing 10 hits while allowing just two earned runs.
AIC and Southern Connecticut complete their
season series Saturday at noon at AIC with a single game.
