BASEBALL EDGED BY NATIONALLY-RANKED RAVENS 1-0
Springfield, Mass. (April 18, 2007) - A home run to lead
off the eighth inning by Keith Renaud proved to be the difference
as No 8/13 Franklin Pierce College edged American International
College 1-0 in Northeast-10 baseball at AIC Park Wednesday
afternoon. The Ravens, who have won 15 of their last 16
games, improve to 28-5 and 13-1 in league play, while the Yellow
Jackets are now 6-17 and 2-11 in the league.
Renaud's blast to left broke open what had been a scoreless tie. The Yellow Jackets left a total of 12 men on base, including two men apiece in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. AIC outhit Franklin Pierce 10-8, collecting their 10 hits off four different Raven pitchers. Jeff Rustico (Plantsville, Conn.) was 3-5 at the plate while David Dest (Orange, Conn.) collected a pair of hits.
Clay Jenkins picked up his second win of the year as the fourth of five Raven pitchers to appear, allowing two hits in 1.1 innings of work. Tyler Bishop did not allow a hit over the final 1.2 innings to earn his sixth save. Patrick Salmon (Worcester, Mass.) worked the final three innings, allowing four hits and taking the loss. Nick Noblit (Westfield, Mass.) started the game for AIC and worked six innings, allowing just four hits while fanning three and not allowing a run.
AIC returns to action Thursday when it hosts
Merrimack in a doubleheader starting at 1:30 pm.
