HAWKS TAKE RUBBER GAME 13-4

BOX SCORE

Manchester, N.H. (April 22, 2007) - The Saint Anselm baseball team earned a 13-4 victory over American International on Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Park. The Hawks are now 2-1 on the year against the Yellow Jackets after the teams split a doubleheader yesterday.

Saint Anselm is now 7-15 in the Northeast-10 and 7-22 overall. American International falls to 8-19 and 4-13 in the conference.

Tyler Cooke (Brattleboro, Vt.) had the best day at the plate for AIC, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Andrew Martirano (Yonkers, N.Y.) had a 2-for-3 day with one run scored, while Kyle Paton (Westfield, Mass.) and Kevin Farrell (Wilbraham, Mass.) each drove in a run for the Yellow Jackets.

All eight Hawk position players got a hit in the game as the team tied their most runs in a game this season. Mike Craig (Milford, Mass.), Adam Hussey (Danvers, Mass.) and John Welch (Medford, Mass.) each went 3-for-5 and combined for eight runs scored and four RBI. Wayne MacKay (Melrose, Mass.) also drove in four runs by going 2-for-5.

The Hawks scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and never trailed in the game. The team used four extra base hits, including three doubles and Welch's first triple of the season, to get the early lead. Saint Anselm held a 4-1 advantage from the fourth inning until the bottom of the seventh when they scored six times to break the game open. The Hawks had nine hits and scored each of the runs on six-seperate scoring hits in taking a 10-1 lead. The Yellow Jackets got three runs back in the top of the eighth, including a two-run single by Cooke, but Saint Anselm got three of their own in the bottom of the inning. MacKay drove in all three of those runs with a bases-clearing double that finished the game's scoring at 14-3.

Saint Anselm starting pitcher Nick Barese (Braintree, Mass.) went to 2-3 on the season after giving up four runs in eight innings of work. Billy Thompson fell to 0-2 after giving up seven hits and six runs in sixth innings for American International.
