Greyhounds Edge Baseball 5-4
Springfield, Mass. (April 24, 2007) - Senior Bryan Soltis
(Plantsville, Conn.) pitched a complete game surrendering only
three earned runs, but came up short in an attempt to notch his
third victory of the year, as the Yellow Jackets were nipped 5-4 by
Assumption College in a Northeast-10 match-up Tuesday afternoon.
The Greyhounds improve their record to 13-21 overall and 5-16 in
NE-10 play while AIC falls to 8-21 overall and 4-15 in the
Northeast-10.
The Yellow Jackets moved within 5-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning when Chuck March (Southington, Conn.) singled in Billy Thompson (Brookfield, Conn.) who doubled to lead off the inning and Jeff Rustico (Plantsville, Conn) scored Jay Rustico on a sacrifice fly (Plantsville, Conn.) after he singled and advanced to third. David Dest (Orange, Conn.) advanced to third base and was the potential tying run in the bottom of the ninth, but was unable to reach home.
AIC led 2-1 at the end of the first but gave up three runs in the top-half of the third and never saw the lead again. March, Thompson, Jeff Rustico and Kevin Farrell (Wilbraham, Mass.) all earned RBI's in the defeat.
Soltis picked up the loss for the Yellow Jackets while Dustin Wirzburger improved to 2-0 on the year for the Greyhounds.
