NO. 8/15 FRANKLIN PIERCE BLANKS BASEBALL 3-0
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 25,
2007) - Tom Cote allowed just one hit over five innings of
work as No. 8/15 Franklin Pierce College posted a 3-0 victory over
American International College in a Northeast-10 baseball game that
was shortened to five innings due to rain Wednesday. The
Ravens won their seventh straight to improve to 36-6 and 21-2 in
NE-10 play, while the Yellow Jackets are 8-22 and 4-16 in the
league.
Cote allowed just one AIC hit on the afternoon, a single to Jeff Rustico (Plantsville, Conn.) to lead off the bottom of the fourth that just tipped off the outstretched glove of third baseman Cliff Hicks. Cote would fan nine in five innings of work while walking four.
The Ravens scored a pair of runs in the first inning. Vinny Pennell led off the game by reaching on an error and scored when Kevin Renaud reached on another error. Renaud would later score on a wild pitch. The other FPC run came in the third when Jake Christman scored on a double by Kevin Rivers.
Rivers had a pair of hits for the guests, who collected just four hits over five innings. Nick Noblit (Westfield, Mass.) took the loss for AIC, fanning four while scattering those four hits and surrendering just one earned run.
AIC returns to action Thursday when it travels
to Assumption for a 3:30 contest.
