BASEBALL SWEEPS NYACK
FORT PIERCE, Fla. (March 13, 2007) - The American
International College baseball team swept a doubleheader from Nyack
College Tuesday morning. The Yellow Jackets, who upped their
record to 4-1 on their Florida trip, won the first game 5-3 and
completed the sweep with a 6-2 victory in game two. The
Warriors fall to 1-8 on the season.
In the first game, the Yellow Jackets would generate all the offense they would need in the first inning, striking five times in the bottom of the first frame to take a 5-0 lead. Nick Noblit (Westfield, Mass.) picked up the win on the hill while Mike Lavato (Springfield, Mass.) earned the save. Jeff Rustico (Plantsville, Conn.) had a triple and an RBI while Kyle Paton (Westfield, Mass.) was 2-3 at the plate with two stolen bases.
In the nightcap, American International broke open a 2-2 tie with four runs in the top of the sixth inning to pull down the victory. Billy Thompson (Brookfield, Conn.) pitched a complete game for the win, fanning two. Rustico was 3-4 with a pair of RBI while Tyler Cooke (Brattleboro, Vt.) finished the second game 2-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles and two runs scored.
AIC faces Northwood University Wednesday.
