PACE CRUISES PAST AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL, 8-1

BOX SCORE

PLEASANTVILLE, NY (May 1, 2007)
- The Pace University baseball team defeated the Yellow Jackets of American International College, 8-1 this afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference baseball action at Finnerty Field on the Pleasantville Campus of Pace University. The Setters improve to 27-21 on the season (17-9 in the NE-10), while the Yellow Jackets drop to 8-28 overall (4-22 in the NE-10).

Junior Matt Arburr (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) led the Pace attack, going 2-for-2 at the plate with four RBI's and two runs scored, including his team-leading 11th home run of the season, a new career-high. With his four RBI day, Arburr now has a team-high 40 RBI's on the year.

The Setters got on the board in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly to right field by freshman Aaron Zrenda (Niantic, CT/Loomis Chaffee Prep) that brought home Jack Cawley (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep), who singled to lead off the inning. Cawley stole his team-leading 29th stolen base of the season to advance to second and later advanced to third on a balk.

Pace added their second run of the game in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double to left center by junior transfer Neil Ross (Cortland Manor, NY/ Walter Panas/Dominican College) that drove in Arburr, who doubled to left center to lead off. Arburr put three more runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run homerun over the left field wall, scoring Joe Barracato (Westbury, NY/Clarke) and Ted Mullen (Madison, CT/Choate Rosemary Hall). Barracato reached base with an infield single to second, while Mullen was hit by a pitch.

In the bottom of the seventh, Mullen's RBI double down the right field line that drove home Cawley and Arburr's sac fly to center that scored Mullen made the game 7-0. Pace would score their final run of the game in the bottom of the eighth as Vinny Dammann (Muilica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded bringing home Adam Harwood (Los Angeles, CA/Brentwood).

The Yellow Jackets scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI single up the middle by Bryan Turney (Auburn, MA) that scored David Dest (Orange, CT). Dest reached base through a fielding error by the first basemen.

Freshman Michael Mastrogiovani (Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) (2-0) tossed six strong innings scattering four hits, while walking one and striking out four.
