BASEBALL POUNDS PAST PACE 11-9
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 3, 2007) -
Kevin Farrell (Wilbraham, Mass.) was 3-4 with a
pair of doubles and four runs batted in as American International
College pounded out 14 hits in an 11-9 win over Pace University in
Northeast-10 baseball Thursday afternoon at AIC Park. The win
snaps a nine-game slide for the Yellow Jackets as they improve to
9-28 overall and 5-22 in NE-10 play. The Setters, who had won
six of seven coming into Thursday, are now 27-22 and 17-10 in the
league.
Farrell, in addition to going 3-4, also scored a pair of runs. Jason Rustico (Plantsville, Conn.) was 3-5 with an RBI, while Nick Roeder (Berlin, Conn.) and Dan Fey (Plymouth, Mass.) each had two hits, with Fey driving in a pair of runs in the second on a single. Tyler Cooke (Brattleboro, Vt.) also drove in a pair of runs and scored twice.
Pace was led by Ted Mullen's 3-6 day at the plate, as he also drove in three runs. Andre Liscinsky was 3-4 with four runs, while Adam Harwood registered a pair of hits.
Leading 4-3 after two innings, AIC would score four times in the third to open an 8-3 lead. Farrell delivered a two-run double while Rustico and Roeder each drove in runs. The Setters would get three runs in the fourth, two coming on a Mullen single, and one in the fifth to make it 8-7, but a two-run single by Cooke in the bottom of the fifth made it 10-7. The Yellow Jackets would plate their final run in the sixth with two outs when Farrell drove in Bryan Turney (Auburn, Mass.), who had tripled in the prior at-bat.
Dan Nugent (Cambridge, Mass.) worked six innings in relief of AIC starter Mike Lavato (Springfield, Mass.) and earned the win by scattering seven hits and allowing a pair of earned runs while fanning four. Nicholas DeMeo, the first of five Setter pitchers on the afternoon, would work the first two innings and took the loss.
AIC plays its final home game of 2007 when it
hosts Southern New Hampshire Friday at 3:30 pm.
