Southern New Hampshire Pounds Baseball 14-2

BOX SCORE

Springfield, Mass. (May 4, 2007) - Southern New Hampshire plated eight runs in the top half of the eighth inning pulling away from American International College 14-2 in a Northeast-10 baseball contest Friday afternoon. The win propels the Penmen to 11-17 overall and 10-16 in the Northeast-10. The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 9-29 overall and 5-23 in the Northeast-10.

Southern New Hampshire led 3-2 going into the top of the seventh inning where they scored three times off of AIC starter Bryan Soltis (Plantsville, Conn.) pushing their lead to 6-2. Soltis pitched well up until the seventh inning where he ran into trouble. The Penman poured it on in the eighth scoring eight runs off of AIC relievers Patrick Salmon (Worcester, Mass) and Zack Leon (Guliford, Conn.)

AIC held close until the later innings, but couldn't compete with Southern New Hampshire's strong offensive output. Three seniors, Soltis, Tyler Cooke (Brattleboro, Vt.) and Dominic Meattey (Fitzwilliam, NH) played in their last home contest in an AIC uniform and were honored before the game. Jason Rustico (Southington, Conn.) tallied two RBI's in the losing effort for the Yellow Jackets.

Soltis was hit with the loss for the Yellow Jackets while Greg Lyon took home the win for the visiting Penmen.

AIC will travel to Southern New Hampshire for a double header starting at 12:00 tomorrow afternoon. The games will mark the final contest of the season for the Yellow Jackets.
