Boxscore

WINTERPARK, Fla. - The American International College baseball team slipped to the Bentley Falcons 7-3 Thursday afternoon in a non-conference match-up at the Alfond Stadium in Florida. Senior catcher Jeff Rustico (Southington, Conn.) had two RBIs for the Yellow Jackets who fall to 1-5 overall on the season with the loss. The win propels the Falcons to 3-10.

Bentley grabbed a 1-0 lead when Michael DeCoste scored after being singled in by Chris Hardy with two outs in the third innings. AIC tied the score at one in the bottom half of the third when Dan Fey (Plymouth, Mass.) scored on a Herb Coggeshall (Coventry, Conn.) sacrifice fly to right field after singling with one out in the inning.

The Falcon's big inning came in the fourth when they tacked on four runs. Two scores came on one swing of the bat from Garrett Stenhouse, who smacked a two-run homerun with James Roche standing at first base after reaching on an error to lead off the inning. Ross Curley then singled up the middle and came home after Charlie Pagliarulo doubled down the left field line. Bentley added one more run when Pagliarulo came around after DeCoste grabbed an RBI doubling to left field.

AIC gave up two more scores in the seventh but added two in the eighth when Rustico doubled with Jay Rustico (Southington, Conn.) and Coggeshall on first and second base with one down.

Terry Loh (Milford, Conn.) gave up five runs in four innings for AIC. Mike Lavato (Springfield, Mass.), Dan Nugent (Cambridge, Mass.) and Billy Thompson (Brookfield, Conn.) all combined for two innings of shutout baseball while John Shivo (Ayer, Mass.) went three innings giving up two runs.

AIC will conclude their trip in Florida with a game against Rollins tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 pm.
