Baseball Shutout at Stonehill
Easton, Mass. - The American International College baseball team was shutout Monday afternoon at Stonehill, 3-0. The loss brings the Yellow Jackets record to 2-9 on the season and 1-2 in the Northeast-10, while the Skyhawks improved to 10-6 on the year and 2-0 in the Northeast-10. Senior David Dest (Orange, Conn.) went 2 for 4 at the plate for AIC.
Stonehill scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead. Senior Dave Fradette (Goffstown, N.H.) scored the game's first run on a single by freshman Angelo Bruno (Norwalk, Conn.). Sophomore Ron Van Stein (Trumbull, Conn.) scored the game's second run on a sacrifice fly. The Skyhawks added a run in the eighth for the 3-0 final.
Stonehill junior Matt Giusti (Hopkinton, Mass.) pitched all nine innings with eight strike outs, Giusti improved his record to 2-1. Yellow Jacket graduate student Brett Cooley (Somers, Conn.) pitched 7.1 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on ten hits, one walk, and four strike outs. The loss brings his record to 1-2 on the season.
Next up, the Yellow Jackets will host New Haven at 3:30pm.
