Post Rolls to 6-1 Win Over AIC

Waterbury, Conn. - The American International College baseball team fell to host Post University, 6-1, Wednesday afternoon at Municipal Stadium in a nonconference contest. The Eagles improved to 8-12 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 4-13. Freshman Corey Ketterer (Plymouth, Mass.) went 2 for 4 at the plate with a run scored for AIC.

Post took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as junior Dan Luisi (Bethpage, N.Y.) singled to right field to leadoff the inning and scored two batters later from third as senior Eric Rovinetti (Watertown, Conn.) grounded out to second base. The Yellow Jackets answered in the top of the second as Ketterer singled to right field to start the inning and was driven in by freshman Dillon Fontaine (Amenia, N.Y.), who reached on a fielder choice as classmate Dan Mooney (Bennington, Vt.) was cut down at second base.

The Eagles regained the lead in the bottom of the second junior Jim Conto (West Hempstead, N.Y.) scored from third on Luisi's single to right field after reaching on an error by Mooney at third base. Post tacked on two more runs in the third and fourth innings for the 6-1 final.

Sophomore Tim McCarthy (Waterbury, Conn.) picked up the win on the mound after entering the game in the fourth inning. He tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless relief while striking out three and allowing just one hit. Graduate student Terry Loh (Milford, Conn.) took the loss for AIC after allowing six runs, five earned, in 3.1 innings.

Luisi finished 4 for 4 with two runs score, a walk and an RBI from the leadoff spot for Post and Rovinetti went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Senior Jeff Rustico (Plantsville, Conn.) went 2 for 4 at the dish for the Yellow Jackets.

AIC returns to action when it hosts Southern New Hampshire Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at AIC Park.
