FIELD HOCKEY BLANKS FRANKLIN PIERCE 1-0

BOX SCORE

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 18, 2005)Elissa Goldsmith (Hubbardston, Mass.) scored with just over 18 minutes to play and Cindy Armand (Danvers, Mass.) made seven saves for her second career shutout as American International College posted its first win of the season with a 1-0 win over Franklin Pierce College in a Northeast-10 field hockey game.  The win erases an 18-game winless streak dating back to last season for the Yellow Jackets as they more to 1-14 and 1-13 in Northeast-10 play.  The Ravens fall to 6-11 and 4-10 in the league.

After a scoreless first half, AIC would notch the game’s lone goal at the 51:35 mark.  Jamie Anderson (North Attleboro, Mass.) fired a shot that was tipped by Goldsmith past Franklin Pierce goalie Amanda Pietrazuk (Clinton, Conn.) for the lead.  Anderson was credited with an assist on the play.  The Ravens had several chances to tie the score, including a ball that found the back of the cage with under 1:30 to go, but that goal was waved off and the Yellow Jackets held on for the win.

With the assist, Anderson tied the school record for career assists with nine helpers, tying Carmen Carter, who played from 2001-04.

Armand notched seven saves for her second career shutout, while Pietrazuk also made seven stops.  AIC outshot Franklin Pierce 10-9.

AIC returns to action Thursday when it hosts Stonehill in a 4:00 contest.
