FIELD HOCKEY EDGED BY MERRIMACK IN OVERTIME

BOX SCORE 

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (Oct. 2, 2005) – Junior Kristen Belair (Methuen, Mass.) scored her seventh goal of the season six minutes into overtime to give Merrimack College a 2-1 win over American International College in Northeast-10 field hockey action Sunday morning at Warrior Field.

Belair’s scored from about eight yards out off a pass from freshman Jaclyn Backman (Greenwich, Conn.) at 76:11 of the first overtime to give the Warriors (6-4, 6-4 Northeast-10) their third win in their last five games. The loss dropped the Yellow Jackets to 0-9 (0-9 Northeast-10) on the season.

Freshman Caitlin White (Bridgewater, Mass.) gave Merrimack a 1-0 lead at 14:08 when she poked home a loose ball for her first career goal. The Yellow Jackets tied the score at one when Amanda Demers took a pass from Kristen Wright and beat Merrimack goalkeeper Amy Larrabee (Stratham, N.H.) at 31:55.

The Warriors outshot the Yellow Jackets 17-7 and held a 19-2 edge in penalty corners. Sophomore Cindy Armand made 10 saves for the Yellow Jackets while Larrabee made three saves en route to her sixth win of the season.
