NO. 8 SAINT MICHAEL'S POSTS 5-0 WIN OVER AIC
COLCHESTER, Vt. (September 25, 2005) – Saint
Michael’s College scored four goals in the second half and
cruised past American International College, 5-0, in Northeast-10
Conference field hockey action on Sunday on Duffy Field at Doc
Jacobs Complex.
For the Purple Knights, seniorNikki Pickman (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) scored twice, while juniorAshley Webb (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) tallied a goal and an assist. SeniorAshley Brown (New Boston, N.H./Goffstown Area) and sophomoreHannah Wolfe (Bow, N.H./Bow) also scored, while juniorTina Nardi (Rupert, Vt./Salem Central) stopped two shots for her sixth win in seven games for Saint Michael’s (6-4, 6-2 NE-10), ranked eighth in Tuesday’s STX/NFHCA Division II National Coaches’ Poll.
For the Yellow Jackets, seniorKiara Mojica (Windsor, Conn.) stopped two shots while allowing just one goal in her first game in net this season, while sophomoreCindy Armand (Danvers, Mass.) recorded four second-half saves for AIC (0-8, 0-8 NE-10).
The Purple Knights opened the scoring 7:16 into the contest on Brown’s first goal of the season, which proved to be the game-winner, off of an assist from Webb. AIC nearly tied the contest 15 minutes later, but a shot by seniorAmanda Demers (Danielson, Conn.) slammed off of the right post.
The score remained 1-0 until midway through the second half, when Pickman scored a pair of goals less than two minutes apart, with her first goal assisted by juniorLindsay Brancaleone (Gloucester, Mass./Manchester Essex Regional). The Purple Knights maintained their 3-0 lead until the final minute, when Wolfe and Webb converted off of penalty corners assisted by juniorCassie Dewey (Lebanon, N.J./Mount Saint Mary’s Academy) and sophomoreChelsea Kimball (North Berwick, Maine/Noble).
AIC hosts Southern Connecticut
State University on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
