Field Hockey Drops 3-2 Decision to Franklin Pierce In OT

RIDGE, N.Y. - The Franklin Pierce field hockey team earned a 3-2 overtime victory over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference action this evening at Sodexho Field. Sophomore Jenee Clifford (Sandown, N.H./Timberlane) netted the game-winning goal with just 1:41 remaining in overtime to clinch the Ravens fifth victory of the season

Franklin Pierce opened the scoring midway through the first half as sophomore Angela Barone (Norwood, Pa./Interboro) netted her second goal of the season to give the Ravens a 1-0 advantage. Sophomore Stephanie Howard (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) added her first collegiate goal with 11:35 remaining in match to give the Ravens a 2-0 lead. .

American International responded late in the second half as graduate student Amanda Demers (Danielson, Conn./Killingly) collected her first goal of the season to cut the Franklin Pierce lead to 2-1. The Yellow Jackets evened the score just 1:02 later, as junior Nichole Phelps (Nassau, N.Y./Columbas) connected for her second goal of the season. The goal was assisted by sophomore Jacki Lapointe (Danvers, Mass/Danvers).

Franklin Pierce broke the deadlock late in the overtime period as Clifford blasted a shot past American International goalkeeper Cindy Armand (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) to secure the win. The Ravens controlled the tempo in overtime, firing off seven shots before Clifford's game-winner.

Franklin Pierce senior goalkeeper Amanda Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) collected three saves to preserve the win for Ravens. Armand totaled 19 stops for the Yellow Jackets despite the loss.

AIC will visit Stonehill Thursday, October 26 for a 3:30 start.
