AIC Drops Road Finale 4-0
EASTON, Mass.-- Sophomore Kerri Sullivan
(Goffstown, N.H.) netted a goal and two assists for four
points as fifth-ranked Stonehill clinched a tie for its first-ever
Northeast-10 Conference field hockey championship with a 4-0 league
victory over American International Thursday afternoon at W.B.
Mason Stadium.
The host Skyhawks (15-3, 13-2 Northeast-10) used a microburst of scoring midway through the first half to post their eighth straight triumph, as Stonehill netted all four of its goals in a 4:39 span. Junior Kara Brady (Eastham, Mass.) gave the hosts the only goal they would need at the 16:04 mark when she converted passes from Sullivan and freshman Claire Hourihan (East Amherst, N.Y.) off a penalty corner for her fourth goal of the year, and junior Caitlin Gleason (New Boston, N.H.) extended the lead to 2-0 just 39 seconds later when she took a pass in front from freshman Jackie Ladino (North Dartmouth, Mass.) for her team-leading 12th tally of the season.
Junior Ashley Freeman's (White River Junction, Vt.) first goal of the year on Sullivan's second assist 1:04 later made it 3-0, and Sullivan closed out the Stonehill scoring at the 20:43 mark when she converted give-and-go passes from Gleason and Ladino for her seventh marker of the season.
Junior Dani Ryder (Gloucester, Mass.) made one save to pick up her 15th victory and eighth shutout of the season in goal for Stonehill, while junior Cindy Armand (Danvers, Mass.) made 16 stops in net for the visiting Yellow Jackets (2-15, 2-13 Northeast-10) as the Skyhawks outshot American International by a commanding 24-3 margin for the match while holding a 16-3 edge in penalty corners.
AIC will host their season finale Saturday October 28th at
12:00am.
