ANDERSON LIFTS FIELD HOCKEY PAST FRANKLIN PIERCE

BOX SCORE

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 25, 2006), Behind two goals from junior Jamie Anderson (North Attleboro, Mass.) and a goal from sophomore Stephanie Laskey (Erving, Mass.) American International College downed Franklin Pierce College 3-2 Monday afternoon in Northeast-10 field hockey at Yellow Jackets Field. The win improves the Yellow Jackets to 2-5 overall and 2-4 in Northeast-10 play. The loss drops Franklin Pierce to 3-4 overall and 3-3 in Northeast-10 action.

Just 11:25 into the first-half AIC took a 1-0 lead when Laskey scored when she pushed a penalty stroke past Franklin Pierce senior goalkeeper Amanda Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn.).

The Ravens would tie the score at 1-1 before halftime when sophomore Jennifer Provencher (Rye, N.H.) tipped a shot past Yellow Jackets goalkeeper junior Cindy Armand (Danvers, Mass.).

The game would remain tied in the second-half, until AIC would get a goal from Anderson, the first of two on the afternoon. The goal, off a penalty corner at the 41:37 mark, was assisted by Laskey.

With the score 2-1, AIC would get another goal from Anderson 8:01 later this time off of a scramble that occurred in front of the net. Franklin Pierce would find the back of the net one more time, when sophomore Trisha Slowinski (Colrain, Mass.) took a pass from junior Elizabeth Ellis (Turner, Maine) and blasted it past Armand with just under 19 minutes remaining.

Armand would make seven saves en route to the win, while Pietraszuk also made seven saves for the Ravens.

With 12 games remaining on the schedule AIC has already doubled its win total from last year. The victory was also the most goals scored in a game since the Yellow Jackets downed Lasell 4-0 on October, 25 2002.

AIC will next host Stonehill College on Saturday, September 30 at 12:00pm.
