AIC Takes Season Opener 2-0
New Haven, Connecticut - Seniors Jamie
Anderson (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Nicole
Phelps (Nassau, N.Y.) each scored a goal in American
International College's 2-0 triumph over Southern Connecticut in a
Northeast-10 match-up Thursday evening.
The win was the first victory on the road for the Yellow Jackets since 2001 when they downed LaSalle 4-0.
The match, which proved to be a see-saw battle, saw the Owls out-shoot the Yellow Jackets 20-12. Senior Cindy Armand (Danvers, Mass.) turned away nine shots to help lead AIC to their second consecutive season opening victory.
The Yellow Jackets battled hard, and were able to score the
games first goal midway through the first-stanza when Phelps took a
feed from
Anderson and stroked it pasted Southern Connecticut goalie Kiernan
Kelley.
The second Jacket goal was scored in the second-frame when Kara Koukol (North Attleboro, Mass.) shoved a pass through the Owls defense to Anderson who took the feed and tallied her 12th career goal.
The Yellow Jackets move to 1-0 on the season while the Owls fall
to 1-1. AIC will next visit St. Anselm September 1st for
an 11:00 am match.
