Laskey Leads Field Hockey to 2-1 Overtime Victory Over Seton Hill

Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Junior midfielder Stephanie Laskey (Erving, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal in the 81st minute to lead the field hockey team to a 2-1 overtime victory over Seton Hill Sunday at Elms College. With the win, the Yellow Jackets improved to 3-13 on the season and snapped an 11-match losing skid, while the Griffins fell to 7-8 on the year. AIC also improved to 2-3 in overtime games this season.

AIC had several scoring chances in overtime and cashed in when Laskey sent a pass from freshman forward Rhonwen Peters (Aquashicola, Pa.) past Seton Hill senior goalie Meredith Benson (Christiana, Pa.) for her third goal of the season. Peters' assist was her third of the year.

The Griffins took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute when freshman forward Natasha Pedzik (Patchogue, N.Y.) put home a pass from freshman midfielder Anne Williams (Lewiston, Pa.). The Yellow Jackets answered in the 54th minute as sophomore midfielder Chelsey Grogan (Greenfield, Mass.) buried a shot from the top-left of the scoring area off a penalty corner. Nicole Phelps (Nassau, N.Y.) assisted on Grogan's third goal of the season after putting the ball in play off the penalty corner.

Seton Hill had an excellent scoring chance with a three-on-one break just prior to Laskey's goal, but freshman goalie Nicole Spence (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) turned the shot away with 8:34 remaining in overtime. She made three saves after entering the game at the beginning of the second half to record the first win of her collegiate career. Senior goalie Cindy Armand (Danvers, Mass.) made three saves in the first half, while Benson made nine saves in taking the loss.

The Yellow Jackets return to action Thursday at Assumption at 7 p.m.
